Vision
Bible and Discipleship:
We believe that the
Bible is the perfect Word of God, describing in detail His purposes and
plans for mankind. It is historically accurate and without flaw, and it
is the one and only foundational text by which Christianity and its
basic tenets and beliefs can be understood. Therefore, it is our
intention to teach the Bible to students through in-depth reading,
discussion, and analysis of each passage of scripture, starting with
Genesis and ending with the Book of Revelation.
Gender-based
Discipleship groups discuss Bible applications for living the Christian
life—transferring from head knowledge to the heart. We seek
transformation in the lives of our staff and students as they come
together in an environment of love, acceptance and confidentiality to
explore what Christ has to say about their lives and their values.
Computer
Science:
We believe that
technology is a tool used to develop God-given talents, to expand
students’ knowledge base, to increase their creativity, to develop
communication skills, and to increase problem-solving and
decision-making skills. Technology enhances students’ skills for
working on their personal interests, in the business world, in their
churches and their community.
Fine Arts:
We believe that
drama and music is a gift gift from God used to magnify His name.
Through performance, students learn to serve Christ, and the Christian
community and family. Embracing a variety of theatrical and musical
experiences, students demonstrate creativity, appreciation, and an
expression of music. Through the participation of performance, and
cultural and historical study, students develop a life-long love for
drama and music and Christ.
Miami Valley Christian Academy's
visual arts program is abased on the truth that God is the Master
Artisit, and that creation is God's handiwork (Genesis 1:1). The program
encourages students' appreciation of creation as having been made by our
Creator, and encourages their taking an active role in creating art.
Biblical concepts are integrated throughout the curriculum.
Foreign
Language:
Through the study
of foreign languages, students appreciate the unlimited capabilities
that God has given to all peoples for glorifying and serving Him.
Students recognize that the body of Christ is made up of those who
profess Christ, in all nations, all languages and all races. God
originated languages (Gen. 11:1-9); knowing a foreign language empowers
us to serve Him. Our obedience to the commands of the Lord requires
going to people of all languages (Matt. 28:19, 20) and all nations and
languages will be represented in heaven (Rev. 5:9, 7:9).
Health:
Guided by a Christian perspective, health education students make
informed decisions about personal, community, and global health issues.
Students receive instruction in mental, physical, social, and spiritual
health. They develop a general working knowledge of the concepts and
vocabulary of each health area.
Students are
encouraged and guided to develop positive self-esteem, accept themselves
and others, to handle stress, to problem solve, and to exercise
leadership. By learning about the human body, nutrition, exercise, and
practicing physical activities, students embrace physical fitness as a
life-long goal. Social health includes working out real situations with
friends, family and peers. Spiritual health places Christ at the center
of a Christian student’s life. Students are encouraged to make faith
informed, responsible choices.
Language Arts:
We
believe that God has given us the unique gifts of oral and written
communication. By being good stewards of these gifts, we glorify Him and
communicate His truth. In a Christ-centered environment, students are
given the opportunity and encouragement to develop personal excellence
in reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. We seek to increase
students’ potential for academic, social, physical, and spiritual
growth. Ultimately, the language arts program strives to prepare
students to live a Christ-like life.
Math:
Guided with the
belief that mathematics is not an end in itself but a means of placing
in man’s hands a tool by which he can learn about, explain, and use the
laws of operation of God’s creation. The language of mathematics helps
students understand, develop and describe a sense of order and God’s
providential care for his creation. Students learn mathematical
reasoning by connecting God to mathematics through the Bible and through
mathematical concepts.
Mathematics is rich
in real-world problem solving, critical thinking, and critical analysis
of information that encourages students to make connections among
mathematical topics and other areas of study. Mathematics enables us to
think with logic and reason.
Physical Education:
Miami
Valley Christian Academy’s Physical Education program encourages
students to have a physically active lifestyle. The program and teaching
faculty provide a fun and engaging environment that fosters individual
potential, leadership, a positive attitude, and participation. Students
grow in an understanding of rules (2 Timothy 2:5), safety, and
strategies through games and activities.
Physical Education
offers a unique opportunity where sportsmanship is paramount to
developing the understanding and sensitivity needed to function in a
diverse society. Above all, P.E. reflects the high value God places on
human life and the preciousness of others. Each activity offers
opportunities for spiritual growth where students are encouraged to
explore how Christ would react to each situation.
Social Studies:
We
believe that social studies provide a record of God’s dealings with
mankind and the physical world, past and present. By carefully examining
the events and circumstances of our ancestors and their cultures,
students gain the ability to apply lessons from the past to present
situations and seek a better future.
We further believe
that it is important to understand our country’s traditions thus
cultivating a sense of patriotism. Good citizenship should be promoted
as a vital part of each student’s heritage. An investigation into the
democratic process leads to feelings of civic duty and becoming
productive citizens. A critical examination of America’s political and
economical place on the domestic and foreign scene helps foster a sense
of spiritual and humanitarian responsibility to the people of this and
other nations.
Science:
All of the
disciplines within the science department should present a strong
foundation of scientific experiences and concepts that establish God as
the designer, creator, and sustainer of all substance. Students see the
handiwork of God in the structure and function of the natural world.
Theories of evolution are taught as theories and taught from a Christian
perspective.
Whether we study
organic or inorganic concepts—earth, physical and life sciences,
biology, chemistry, or physics, students use inquiry and the scientific
method to understand the ongoing nature of scientific discoveries.
Through examples of scientists who were inspired by God in their
scientific thought, students learn that the highest achievement they can
reach is a personal fellowship with God.
